The same specialized portal ensures that electric car graveyards have been seen in approximately half a dozen cities in China. The total number could be around 20,000 vehicles. “So what conclusion should we draw? Certainly, it is not that electric vehicles are a failure. For starters, we are talking about less than 20,000 electric vehicles in a country that has millions of vehicles of this type,” says Electrek.
But there seems to be another reason as well. Most of these vehicles have a limited range. The majority have less than 120 kilometers of range, and many of them only reach 60 kilometers. Car-sharing companies believed, perhaps too optimistically, that they could flood the cities with these cheap vehicles and the public would get used to them, but that was not the case. Their low cost did not compensate for their poor performance, especially when cities offer fairly efficient public transportation.

The conclusion drawn by experts who have investigated the case is that “electric vehicles will be successful if they are better than internal combustion ones, not inferior products like these. Furthermore, using them for car-sharing or ride-sharing services is not worthwhile if the product is not good.”
However, the worst part is that those thousands of abandoned vehicles in the fields of these 12 Chinese cities constitute waste that literally seems to have been left to its fate, without any treatment or recovery. The progressive deterioration of the cars guarantees environmental pollution.
